The 6th Annual Hamptons Happening, Cooks & Croupiers: Chef Tastings, Casino & Live Auction, hosted by Susan and Louis Meisel was held at The Sagaponack Sculpture Field. They raised $265,000 to benefit the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, as guests – such as Jon Gosselin and Michael Lohan with fiancée Erin Mueller – enjoyed gourmet bites from the chef tasting stations, danced to the live jazz band, bid on items during the exciting live and silent auctions and tried their luck at the casino tables, all for an amazing cause.

In his keynote speech, Dr. Samuel Waxman addressed the work the Foundation is currently accomplishing— developing treatments to successfully address breast cancer, particularly the form that devastatingly affects young women, and to examine and resolve the reasons why cancer re-occurs within patients once it has been successfully cured.

The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization focusing on one of the most promising strategies for developing cures and treatments for many types of cancer; even offering hope for preventing cancer from developing. It is on the cutting edge of a revolution with alternatives to the traditional treatments of chemotherapy and radiation, which kill cancer (and healthy) cells.

Participating restaurants at the event included Annie’s Organic Café, Bobby Van’s, Brandt Beef, Cavaniola’s Gourmet Cheese Shop, Chef Pierrot Signature Catering, DuFour Pastry Kitchens, The Fudge Shoppe, Ichiban Sushi, il laboratoria de gelato, Kneaded Bread, La Masseria, Leo’s Latticini, Magnolia Bakery, Manhattan Chili, Nichol’s, Pure Dark, The Seafood Shop, Shun Lee, Susan Meisel, Town Line BBQ and Tutto Il Giorno. Beverages were sponsored by Palm Bay Imports, Imperia Vodka, Fire Island Beer Company, Hampton Coffee Company and Pellegrino/Acqua Panna.

Last Saturday, Week 2 of the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Blue Star Jets Field in Bridgehampton, brought out a big crowd including Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Jill Zarin, Countess LuAnn Delesseps, Alex McCord, Ramona Singe, Nole, the celebrity stylist and Judge on ABC’s True Beauty.

Jon Gosselin
You know where those boldfaced girls come from. If you don’t, you’ve been under a rock for the past year or more.

Countess LuAnn Delesseps should drop the countess moniker for although it’s authentic per se, it’s tacky in this day and age and in this country and on television. It demeans her, and away from a camera and a mike she’s a really nice woman and very American in a very nice way.

Also in that crowd was Jon Gosselin, whom I presume you’re all familiar with. And a man named Michael Lohan, father of You-Know-Who. Mr. Lohan was with Erin Muller, his fiancée according to the publicist on the job. Also: Mario Singer, one of the Housewives husbands as well as Simon Van Kempen (Alex’s husband) and Bobby Zarin, husband of You-Know-Who.

So you see, if you went to the polo last Saturday and you’re not that interested in watching the game (which many people at these games are not), you had a front row seat of another game, another match, another look into lives of the Rich and Famous. And even infamous, in some cases. Better than a lotta movies you’ve seen lately.

This past Saturday, the James Beard Foundation honored restaurateurs Alex von Bidder and Julian Niccolini and celebrate the 50th anniversary of their legendary Four Seasons Restaurant at Chefs & Champagne® New York at the Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack.

This annual stasting party and fundraiser features flowing Champagne, the wines of Wölffer Estate Vineyard, select Belgian beers including Stella Artois and culinary offerings from a select group of over 30 fine chefs, several from JBF Award-winning restaurants.

“In 1959 James Beard consulted on the menu for the opening of the groundbreaking Four Seasons, the first American restaurant to change its menu with the seasons,” said Susan Ungaro, President of the James Beard Foundation. “Half a century later, the Four Seasons is still the benchmark against which the finest New York establishments are compared, an accomplishment due in no small part to charismatic owners Alex von Bidder and Julian Niccolini.”

Chefs & Champagne® New York is considered the East End’s premiere culinary event. Funds raised at the event will help to support the James Beard Foundation’s mission and programs.
