Have you heard of the Lowline yet? You will!! The Lowline will be the world's first underground park in the heart of lower Manhattan. A fundraiser for the Lowline Project was held in the Hamptons this past Saturday night, at the Water Mill home of Julia Hornig, who shared hosting duties with Mo Koyfman, Hilary Rosenman, Ariane Goldman, and Marquise Stillwell.
The Lowline is a proposed project that aims to convert a 60-year-old abandoned trolley terminal beneath Delancey Street into an extraordinary subterranean public park. Co-founded by Dan Barasch and James Ramsey, the Lowline will bring cutting edge design and a new generation of green technology to create a innovative new public space for generations to enjoy. |
|
 |
| Planned Lowline Park |
Dubbed the "Lowline" after NYC's successful "High Line" park, the project envisions a fresh approach to solar technology, allowing light to be reflected underground, saving electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and generating the capacity for plants, trees, and grasses to thrive indoors. The Lowline is part of the next phase in urban design, using more creative use of public spaces. Many neighborhood groups and officials in and around the city have already pledged their support. Lowline t-shirts were sold as well as Lowline bracelets created by jewelry designer Joan Hornig.
The funds raised will help Lowline founders Ramsey and Barasch create a mini-Lowline demo in September at the old Essex Market structure, south of Delancey Street, and help further engineering studies in order to plan the park. For more information go to thelowline.org. |

On Saturday, July 28, The Perlman Music Program (PMP) held its annual Summer Benefit in the beautiful community of North Haven, New York. Hosted by Board President Morgan Stark and his wife Sidney, along with Toby and Itzhak Perlman, the festive event brought together supporters and friends to celebrate the Program’s mission to develop the future leaders of classical music.
Although the rain was heavy outside, the occasion was lighthearted inside the tents as guests enjoyed good company and a festive reception. After the welcome, guests were treated to a very special experience: hearing Maestros Itzhak Perlman and Patrick Romano conduct the PMP String Orchestra and Chorus in a program of masterworks by Handel, Vivaldi, and Dvorak. The rain falling on the roof of the concert tent provided a perfect atmosphere and accompaniment to the breathtaking music. After the performance, Toby Perlman and students of the Program’s Summer Music School presented Sidney and Morgan Stark with a gift in appreciation for their remarkable efforts to support the Program. A festive dinner catered by Food & Co. of the Hamptons topped off the evening. |

After dinner, Morgan Stark addressed the guests and reflected on PMP’s incredible growth and success in the past year. Thanks to a leadership gift from Kristy and Jim Clark, PMP celebrated the opening of a brand-new arts center on the Shelter Island campus this year, which was named in the Clark’s honor. The Kristy and James H. Clark Arts Center features spacious room for practice, coaching, and private instruction; a modern residence for female students; and a beautiful 100-seat recital hall, that will be used to present world-class alumni recitals all year to the community.
Toby Perlman, Director and Founder of the Program, was next to express her thanks to Kristy and Jim Clark, Sidney and Morgan Stark, the Program’s entire Board of Directors, and all of PMP’s friends and supporters. At the urging of the guests, she presented an impromptu and engaging Q&A session covering everything from the camp’s admission requirements and the students’ accomplishments to the Program’s unique educational philosophy and its incredible results. |

During dessert, there was one final treat in store. The evening ended with an a cappella performance of doo-wop classics by the Perltones, a singing group including Maestro Perlman, Choir Master Patrick Romano, and PMP Fellows Peter Dugan and Alec Galambos. They were cheered by hearty applause and provided the perfect note on which to end the memorable evening.

| A week ago last Saturday in Bridgehampton at the Peter Marcelle Gallery on 2411 Montauk Highway, Brooke Laughlin and Paige Peterson hosted an opening reception for Paige's new series of Hamptons inspired paintings, celebrating the views from her deck in the Springs. The exhibition ran through this past Sunday. By day Paige is a Senior Vice President at the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. At night she paints. |
