Last Saturday night in East Hampton on the estate of businessman and recording tycoon Russell Simmons, they held the 13th annual Art For Life fundraiser for Simmon’s Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation.
Art For Life was created by Simmons and his two brothers, Danny and Rev. The objective is to help underprivileged kids get access to the arts.

On the other side of the highway in Watermill on this past Saturday night, "The Big Bang," the 19th Annual Watermill Summer Benefit, raised $1,550,000 for the Center's year-round artist residency and education programs. More than $800,000 was raised in ticket sales, and another $700,000 came through the silent and live auction.
More than 20 site specific installations and performances were presented on the grounds during the evening by such artists as Misaki Kawai, Wang Quinsong, Lucien Smith, Heeran Lee, Paul McCarthy, Kembra Pfahler and The Voluptuos Horror of Karen Black, Atopos CVC + Manon Kundig, Carol Ross, Desi Santiago, Tucker Marder, Kitty Huffman, Atopos CVC + Craig Green, Masanao Hirayama, Hanna Reidmar, Paula Garcia, Marianna Kavallieratos, Thanassis Akokkalidis, and Janice Lancaster Larsen.
These works were produced on site in the weeks leading up to the benefit, by more than 70 artists and participants from twenty-four nations. Some will be on view again to the community on August 12 from 3-6 pm for Watermill's annual Discover Watermill day which is free and open to the public. |

There were more than 1200 guests for cocktails greeted by an installation created by summer program participants that recreated the above benefit image of Paul Thek's work: Big Bang Painting and Bacardi specialty cocktail: The Big Bang. The west terrace featured a 60' inflatable installation by Paul McCarthy. The West faҫade of the building was covered entirely by an dramatic installation by artist Wang Quinsong. Also opening at the event was Mike Kelley: 1954 - 2012, a tribute exhibition in collaboration with the LUMA Foundation. The exhibition is curated by Harald Falckenberg and will be on view at The Watermill Center through September 16.
650 guests attended the dinner in a tent with decorations by Atopos CVC + Yoshikazu Yamagata. Jay McInerney was Master of Ceremonies. Daniel Chetrit DJ'ed after dinner. East meets West on the East End. Another amazing evening at the beautiful home of philanthropists Joan & George Hornig took place on Saturday night. Along with Jeremy Fitzgerald, and the Cetana Educational Foundation, an evening of celebration in honor of the Foundation's 20th Anniversary was presented. The Cetana Educational Foundation provides financial support to Burmese students to study abroad along with English language instruction and training in critical thinking, writing and research skills. With the rising expectation that accompany Burma's re-entry into the world community, Cetana's role is more important now than ever.
Guests were treated to cocktails and conversation, Burmese hors d'oeuvres, along with a showcase of Contemporary Burmese Art, which was for sale, showcasing the works of Myanmar's leading contemporary artists. The artwork was brought and presented by Gill Pattison, owner of the River Gallery, Myanmar's leading art gallery in Yangon.

The 11th Annual UCP of NYC Golf Tournament and Celebrity Dinner was held on Monday, July 23, 2012, at Brae Burn Country Club and Century Country Club in Westchester County, New York. The annual tournament attracted over 200 golfers from the tri-state area for a fun day of golf and entertainment. All proceeds from the event support the vital programs provided by UCP of NYC to thousands of New Yorkers with disabilities and their families.
Jill Flint, star of the hit series Royal Pains and a committed supporter of UCP of NYC, served as Host for the event. Eight time Emmy-Award winner, New York Times Bestselling author & Sports Commentator Len Berman, who is currently seen regularly as a commentator on NBC's TODAYand for Fox 5 television, was Emcee for the Celebrity Dinner. Edward R. Matthews, CEO of United Cerebral Palsy of New York City (UCP of NYC), provided opening remarks. Sports Commentator and longtime UCP of NYC supporter Spencer Ross was the key presenter for the evening. |

This year’s Celebrity Dinner marked the inaugural presentation of the UCP of NYC Champion Award, which recognizes individuals with disabilities who demonstrate the power to inspire and lead as role models for people with and without disabilities. UCP of NYC honored as the award’s first-ever recipients Frank Kineavy and Nicholas Gaynor, student managers for Villanova’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Program, with this important new award.
