March 31, 2011. Sunny, then overcast; not quite so cold day in New York yesterday.

I had a lunch date down at Michael’s with Geraldine Fabrikant of the New York Times. It was Wednesday and for whatever Michael’s was its Wednesday-self. Wall-to-wall. A very eclectic crowd, perfect for reporters like this one and Ms. Fabrikant who can sit for hours and speculate on the who’s and the what’s and the why’s of this aglomeration of celebrity, notoriety, wealth, fame, political power making and mongering, and media madness.

For example. Rachel Uchitel, one of the leading ladies in the Other Woman-Tiger Woods marital disaster, was there with Michael Callahan of Vanity Fair. Is there even more dirt to spill or spread (or deny)? Do we care? Moving right along, next door to my table: Julie Macklowe, the hedge fund lady married to the real estate heir, now investing in the fashion industry, with three lovely ladies; Lally Weymouth of the Washington Post family; Harvey Weinstein of the Oscar-winning family with James Dolan, the Cablevision heir.

Up from our nation’s capital, Dr. Ronald Dozoretz, husband of the Democratic Party angel Beth and himself founder of FHC Health Systems and now President of Alternative Behavioral Services; Right/Left alternatives, Roger Ailes, the man who made Fox News lunching with Jon Meacham, former editor of the pre-Tina Brown Newsweek, also biographer of Andrew Jackson and now executive editor of Random House; right next door to them, the legendary Jack Welch; Alexandra Trower and Pamela Van Zandt of Estee Lauder; George Ledes, beauty and fashion publisher.

Norman Foster, Baron Foster of Thames Bank with Paul Goldberger at Michael's.
Also Robert Zimmerman, CNN contributor, political commentator and Democratic strategist with Tad Smith, head of Cablevision; Peter Price with Skip Stein, Cindi Berger of PMK; Tony Hoyt, former publisher of the National Enquirer (also Redbook), Stephen Scheffer with agent Wayne Tabak; Henry Schleiff with Charles Grodin, Kay Koplovitz, founder of USA Networks; Lisa Linden with Carl McCall, former Comptroller of New York State and one-time candidate for governor.

I forgot to mention on yesterday’s Diary that among Tuesday’s guests at Michael’s was Sir Norman Foster, Baron Foster of Thames Bank, and Lady Foster, with Paul Goldberger, the Pulitzer Prize winning architectural critic and writer of the New Yorker. I wanted to take a picture of the distinguished international architect, and I do know Mr. Goldberger, but there are moments when I’m afraid of intruding – especially between writer and potential subject.

Finally, they got up from their table right after I left mine, and so I went back and asked. They couldn’t have been more hospitable, although Lady Foster preferred to step aside. And so I caught the shot of them in front of a painting by another distinguished British artist, David Hockney. As it often is with artists and architects, you may not recognize them by face, but you definitely will by works:
The Norman Foster dome on the Reichstag.
'The Gherkin' in London. Foster's Almaty Twin Towers in Kazakhstan.
Norman Foster's building for the Greater London Authority.
The Hearst Building in NYC. Beach Road Singapore.
Last night Corice Arman, the widow of the great French artist Arman, gave a small dinner at her Tribeca townhouse for Judy Price, founder and former publisher of Avenue Magazine, now head of the National Jewelry Institute. About thirty guests, including the two best-selling authoresses named BarbaraBradford and Goldsmith.
Judy Price and Corice Arman. Barbara Taylor Bradford and Barbara Goldsmith.
P.S. For those interested to learn more about “The Hare With Amber Eyes” which I wrote about earlier this week, it is now in paperback and its author Edmund De Waal, has a web site that very interesting: http://www.edmunddewaal.com/
