Last Sunday, The Lung Cancer Research Foundation hosted its 5th Annual Strides for Life 3-mile fun run/walk around Lake Agawam in Southampton. A record 1100 people turned out to enjoy the gorgeous weather, bond with friends and family and raise funds for critical lung cancer research.

Once the race started, Rosanna joined “Team Caryl” organized by the Wolkoff/Palin families in memory of Caryl Palin, her mother’s late best friend. Other teams participating included “Team Hedi,” spearheaded by LCRF Vice President Kimberly Kravis Schulhof in memory of her mother, Hedi; “Team JPS” and this year’s champions “Pop’s Pals.”
At the finish line, the first 1,000 runners were rewarded with a t-shirt and eco-friendly tote bag. Tory Burch designed a special ‘RUN, BREATHE, LIVE’ shirt for women. |

With the $390,000 raised from this year’s 5th anniversary race, Strides for Life has raised over $2.1 million to expedite research and possible cures for the disease. The event co-chairs were LCRF Founder and President Laurie Carson, Kimberly Kravis Schulhof, Lynne Tarnopol, Wendy Routh and Nancy Y. Hebert.
Race participants included: LCRF Board Members Bill Carson, Jim Dougherty MD, Kimberly Kravis Schulhof and Pippa Gerard. The night before last, the very bi-coastal Alex Hitz was at his Los Angeles aerie high above Sunset Plaza out there under the desert sky the other night where he entertained the troops with his annual summer dinner.

Mr. Hitz, a familiar face in the social whirl on both coasts is also an accomplished chef (had his own restaurant in Atlanta), so aside from the spectacular view and the eclectic guest list, guests were treated to the chef’s summer specials, a totally Southern menu:
Fried chicken, Shrimp and grits, Cold Poached Salmon, Corn pudding; Spinach, Bleu Cheese and Red Onion Salad; Ham Biscuits, Mushroom Tarts, Assorted Passed Desserts.

| Meera Gandhi was feted by Quest magazine on the occasion of the premiere of Meera's new documentary film entitled GIVING BACK. Gandhi wrote, produced and directed the inspiring film about individuals who give back to humanity in special and unique ways. Quest publisher Chris Meigher introduced Meera's film to an audience of more than 150 movers at the Disney Screening Room on Park Avenue. Closing remarks were given by Meera's husband, Vikram Gandhi of Credit Suisse. |
The 23-minute documentary, which can be previewed at www.meeragandhi.com follows her as she salutes philanthropic friends from around the world. It highlights the favorite charities and heartwarming charitable endeavors of those featured.
Featured in the film are Meera's interviews with Cherie Blair, Kerry Kennedy, U2's Bono, Peter Raj Singh, interior designer Clodagh, Vikram Gandhi, Steven Rockefeller and many others. Among those attending the screening and reception were Phylicia Rashad, Alisyn Camerota of Fox News, and Felicia Taylor of CNN. |

Set in the fictional town of Oakdale, As the Worlds Turns enraptured generations of fans for more than fifty years, being the top-rated soap for thirteen consecutive years. |

Members of the illustrious creative team reflected on the upcoming ending of As the World Turns in September, as well as the serial’s many changes over fifty-four years.
After the screening, they discussed how the soap has tackled many contemporary themes over the years, including AIDS, alcoholism, and Alzheimer’s, and how it made history by introducing daytime television’s first gay character in 1988. |

Chaired by Dr. Carolyn Farb, Stand Up for Houston’s Children with Randy Travis, a benefit for non-profit CHILDREN AT RISK, was a record-breaking event at the Verizon Wireless Theater, raising more than $300,000, as well as created awareness of the major issue of child trafficking in Houston.
President George H. Bush and Barbara Bush were honorary chairs of the event. All proceeds will benefit CHILDREN AT RISK’s Center to End the Trafficking and Exploitation of Children, an action-based institute that works to generate solutions to this crisis through policy, advocacy, education, and collaboration.
Houston has become a major hub of human trafficking within the United States, and CHILDREN AT RISK is at the forefront of the advocacy efforts to combat this growing illegal industry. |

CHILDREN AT RISK honored United States Congressman Ted Poe with the CHILDREN AT RISK Founders Award for his advocacy and legislation on behalf of child trafficking victims. After taking office in 2005, Congressman Poe established the bipartisan Victims Rights Caucus, and he has since played a central role in the passing of the Child Predator Act and other groundbreaking legislation that safeguards our children. The congressman was accompanied by his wife, Carol, and his parents Virgil and Doris Poe.
A crowd of more than 750 attended. Randy Travis had them dancing in the aisles as he played his many top hits and old favorites, including “Forever and Ever Amen.” |
