Sweet adoptions, lush botanicals, a birthday bash, & a green auction

Spirit the Dog at "Sweet Adoptions" for The ASPCA hosted by Dylan's Candy Bar.
Last Saturday morning Dylan Lauren of Dylan’s Candy Bar hosted a special event at her store to benefit the ASPCA and spread the word that pet adoption is your best option when looking for a new furry friend. The event featured some of the ASPCA’s cutest adoptable animals. 15% of the net sales were donated to the ASPCA and their mission.

I’ll never understand how anyone can give up their pet, but they do. The dogs (and cats) have a difficult time understanding that too. LOVE is what they bring to your life, and teaching you about love, something that many of us can profit from. One member of our family (of three adopted dogs) came to us from the ASPCA last June. Jenny was nine years old, recovering from a variety of health problems and very wary of anything new in her life, although ten months later, she’s very healthy, a major tail-wagger and joy-giver; a real love dog.

Author and Vogue Contributing Editor Billy Norwich, a long time friend of and collector of works by abstract botanical painter Dora Frost, hosted a reception for her first New York show in several years -- “Peonies” at Miguel Herrera’s 2/20 Gallery in Chelsea.

Frost, whose lush botanical paintings are highly prized by many prominent collectors in New York, Palm Beach and The Hamptons, was overwhelmed by the turnout as friends flew up from Florida, drove down from Connecticut or hopped the Hampton Jitney as did Ann Madonia and daughter Susan.

Friends such as Jean Shafiroff, Wilbur and Hilary Ross, Sally Phipps, Cooky Donaldson, Roger Van Voorhees, Brad Shaheen, Caryn Picker, Charlotte Smith, Jim Hyatt, film director Anna Wilding, interior designer Stef-Albert Bothma, the artist Colette and Broadway producers Ruben Brache and Pamela Laudenslager attended. So crowded was the gallery that some 60 guests mingled on the sidewalk while waitstaff from Pamela Willoughby and Bridget LeRoy’s new catering venture, La Vie Organic, poured Prosecco and served delectable hors d’oeuvres al fresco.
