| Fashion Week has come and gone and there are Morning Afters all over town. The big money now is in maintenance and cleaning crews. My view of it all is from afar although I’ve been involved in the retail/garment industry in past lives and have a natural curiosity about its substance and prosperity. This year was about transition. Not only is the fashion industry re-arranging its geography marketing wise, moving runways, etc., but more and more creative people are coming into the picture. Thirty years ago there were far less manufacturers competing as designer brands, and no more than ten or a half dozen, dominated. Today, competition is fierce and highly entrepreneurial. Thirty years ago the garment industry was still local. The Fashion Weeks have embraced the international, keeping New York at the center. These are very important matters to the economic health and the cultural health of the city. Although from the POV on NYSD, it’s all about scrambling for the right seat, running from one place to the next, all of which was followed by the parties and parties and parties. It’s business as usual. The following are only a tiny segment of the commercial euphoria that was the life last week in New York ... Last Thursday night the Calvin Klein Collection had its Afterparty to celebrate the Men’s and Women’s Fall 2010 Collections at 15 Little West 12 Street. What I see when looking at these pictures is that the tenor of Calvin Klein’s creative sensibility, I mean Calvin, the man, was so distinct and refined that the aura remains long after he’d departed and the name has become a brand. These party pictures are the evidence. |
