The Whitney Contemporaries Art Party and Auction was held at the Skylight Studios on Hudson Street. The Contemporaries are the so-called “junior” group contingent of the Museum’s supporters – ages 24 to 40.
In other words, the art patrons, art collectors and a heavy dose of party-goers and the girls (and some guys) who follow the paparazzi lens.

This past Monday night Hale House held its 39th Anniversary Gala Benefit Dinner and Dance, co-chaired by Valesca Guerrand-Hermes, Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti, Frederick Anderson and Douglas Hannant at 583 Park Avenue. The evening included a silent auction and raised $300,000 for the non-profit, Harlem-based organization that provides child-centered, family focused programs through the Mother Hale Learning Center and a Supportive Transitional Housing Program.
The evening began with cocktails with guests mingling over such hors d’oeuvres as Mini BLTs, Tuna Tartar on Rice Wafers, and Cosmopolitan Shooters while perusing the silent auction items. The impressive auction included an extensive collection of designer handbags donated by brands including Gucci, Marc Jacobs, and Burberry; gift certificates and dining certificates including a $500 gift certificate to Tiffany’s and a seven course dinner for two at Caviar Russe; one-of-a-kind memorabilia such as a Hale House Toy Chest, Canvas, and Mirror decorated by children helped by Hale House programs, as well as gift baskets, jewelry and more.
At dinner, Hale House executive director Randolph McLaughlin recognized Guerrand-Hermes, Jeanbart-Lorenzotti, Anderson and Hannant in addition to Marty Sillen, who was honored for his steadfast support and work for Hale House. After dinner, guests celebrated in style on the dance floor and made their final bids on silent auction items.

Calvary Hospital held its 25th Annual Awards Gala at The Pierre. They raised $1.1 million for the hospital.
William C. Freda, Vice-Chairman and U.S. Managing Partner, Deloitte LLP and Joseph J. Morrow, CEO, Morrow & Co., LLC received the Calvary Medal. The Catholic Institute of the Food Industry received the Calvary Citation of Excellence.

On a Saturday early last month at Shea Stadium -- the New York Mets vs. the Cincinnati Reds -- generated a win for the Mets, and a win for thousands of families in the stands that day, whose lives are touched by autism. It was A Day to Believe; Autism Awareness Day. Every hit, run and catch was dedicated to the New York area children living with autism.
The game, sponsored Autism Speaks, Tommy Hilfiger, Carnegie Investment Bank, Trane Energy and Egg Electric pulled in $200,000 for a consortium of autism schools and organizations such as QSAC, Learning Spring, Alpine Learning Group, Hawthorne Country Day and the New York Center for Autism. |

Autism Speaks, the powerful autism research and advocacy group, came out in force. "We're here because on in every 150 children born today will suffer some form autism," said Autism Speaks President Mark Roithmayr. "The Mets have been amazing in giving this day over to us and this critical cause."
The VIP Tent Party at Shea kicked off an hour before the game. Among the crowd eating hot dogs and sipping champagne were Laura and Harry Slatkin, Melissa and Chappy Morris, Kevin and Susan Murray, Jim and Esme Usdan. The VIP tent gathering went into near-riot mode when former Met great Daryl Strawberry, all 6’6” of him, arrived. Strawberry has made autism his special cause. "My wife and I went to an autism clinic in St. Louis 2 years ago. We saw the kids there and cried. We knew we had to help, we had to do whatever we can," said Strawberry, in between signing autographs and posing for pictures with hundreds of fans. |

VIP sponsor Tommy Hilfiger threw out the first pitch to catcher Brian Schneider, as Mets pitcher Johan Santana coached Hilfiger from behind.
“I wouldn’t have missed this for the world,” said Hilfiger, after stepping off the mound.
"Today, everybody is amazing – the Mets, and all the fans in the stands here to support the autism cause,” said Laura Slatkin, chair of the New York Center for Autism. “Even those of us who don't exactly follow baseball have lots to cheer about. “It's a win-win for all of us." |

Last week Maya Stendhal Gallery opened its exhibition, "George Maciunas Prefabricated Building System." An enthusiastic crowd turned out for the evening to view Fluxus Impresario and Chairman George Maciunas' particular architectural project from 1965. The exhibition brings to light the artist's innovative ideas on architecture in the form of a prefabricated mass housing system. Highlights feature a model of the building and accompanying animation virtual tour designed and constructed using Maciunas' original plans.
Guests included artists, filmmakers, scholars, curators, architects, and art enthusiasts on a distinguished level including avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas, Fluxus artist Larry Miller, and Christo and Jeanne-Claude. |
