Collective Power Making an Impact

UJA-Federation of New York’s Women’s Philanthropy Division Committee of 100 at its inaugural event, In Her Footsteps: Collective Power Making an Impact.

Interior designers Tony Ingrao and Randy Kemper hosted Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic’s East End benefit, Everything that is Beautiful, at their Woodhouse Park estate in East Hampton and raised $410,000 to help support PPHP medical services, education and advocacy programs on the East End. The benefit which honored the organization’s 75 years of keeping the community healthy and informed, featured both a live and silent auction of art, jewels, and design inspired by nature.

The auction itself raised $100,000 and included contributions from artists such as Ross Bleckner, Jeff Koons, David Salle, Kiki Smith, Kara Ross, Nina Runsdorf, Cartier, Sidney Garber, Louise Lawler, Bryan Hunt, and more.

Guests including Beth Ostrosky, Nicole Miller, Patty Raynes, Richard and Renee Steinberg, Christine Wasserstein, Dan Rattiner, Lisa Perry, Elizabeth Ballard, Benjamin Dollar, Richard and Eileen Ekstract, Jackie Harris Hochberg, Daphne Hoge and Savanna Hoge. Planned Parenthood officials attending included Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic President Reina Schiffrin and Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards.

With 13 health centers in Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties, PPHP aims to empower individuals to determine their own sexual health and reproductive futures. They are committed to providing affordable, confidential, and compassionate care to anyone who seeks care from the organization and works to protect the right to medical privacy and to prevent government intrusion on reproductive health care decisions. PPHP’s education and training division offer programs to improve parent/child communication, peer-to-peer education, childcare provider training, and a variety of other community resources. In 2007, PPHP served over 37,000 patients in over 73,000 visits.

More than 700 women philanthropists gathered at The Grand Hyatt in New York to raise nearly half a million dollars at UJA-Federation of New York’s inaugural event, In Her Footsteps: Collective Power Making an Impact, to honor four remarkable women who demonstrate outstanding dedication in the philanthropic world.

Community leaders and philanthropists Klara Silverstein and daughter Lisa Silverstein, senior vice president of Silverstein Properties, were presented with the Philanthropy Award. Musician and songwriter Phoebe Snow, who sacrificed her career to devote herself to raising a severely disabled daughter, was honored with the Compassion Award, and Amanda Bilski, a teenager from Westchester who has been instrumental in developing J-Teen Community Service Leadership Program, a program that informs Jewish teens and their families about Jewish services and special-interest programs, was presented with the Leadership Award.

Emily Frances, entertainment anchor of the CW11 Morning News, emceed the luncheon; Cherie Blair, leading human-rights lawyer and campaigner for women’s equality, addressed the crowd as guest speaker; and Phoebe Snow performed.
