| New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery’s Benefit Committee hosted a gala dinner to benefit medical education. More than 375 people attended the event and more than $400,000 was raised for medical education. It was a magical evening with guests enjoying the entertainment by cabaret star KT Sullivan at the Rainbow Room. “Ongoing medical education is essential to remain at the forefront of innovative procedures,” said Cynthia D. Sculco, chairperson of the Benefit Committee and wife of Thomas P. Sculco, M.D., surgeon-in-chief at Hospital for Special Surgery. |

| Two weeks ago, the Glaucoma Foundation (TGF) presented its first Award for Excellence and Innovation in Glaucoma to Dr. Robert Ritch, founder of TGF and its Medical Director at the Pierre. Dr. Gregory K. Harmon, Chairman of TGF, presented the award to Dr. Ritch. In addition to the Ritch award, New York’s Governor David Paterson was the recipient of the 2008 Kitty Carlisle Hart Award of Merit for Lifetime Achievement. |

The Cinema Society and Details magazine hosted a screening of Milk, the Gus Van Sant directed film that was just named the Best Picture by the New York Film Critics’ Circle. This is a film that everybody who’s seen it is talking about. Sean Penn, the picture’s star, gives a performance of a lifetime playing Harvey Milk, the first openly gay US politician in San Francisco in the 1970s. Oscars, Golden Globes, a lot of people think he should take them all, his performance is so all-consuming.
The star was there; and his co-stars Josh Brolin, James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Joseph Cross were all on hand too, for what many agreed was the most dazzling premiere party New York has seen in ages. Even Sean Penn and his co-stars were having a good time, still going strong, drinking Moet and Belvedere cocktails at close to 2 am as the party just couldn’t wind down. | The James A. Baker Institute for Public Policy celebrated its 15-year anniversary with keynote speaker Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Both Secretary James A. Baker, III and Ambassador Edward P. Djerejian, Founding Director, gave welcoming and introductory remarks which celebrated the early success of the institute. The evening, themed “Forward Thinking in a Changing World,” was co-chaired by Pat Breen and Jeanie Kilroy. The gala was underwritten by Ambassador Hushang Ansary and Shahla Ansary as well as supported by Donald Kendall, Nancy and Rich Kinder, John and Anne Marion, S.
