Winter Wonderlands

Jennifer Rominiecki, Lauren Remington Platt, Dalia Oberlander, Martin Dawson, Serena Nikkhah, Christian Leone, Alex Kramer, Alexandra Lebenthal, Meredith Melling Burke, Nathalie Kaplan at The New York Botanical Garden's WINTER WONDERLAND BALL.
Last Friday evening the New York Botanical Garden held its annual Winter Wonderland Ball with cocktails, dinner and dancing at the Enid Haupt Conservatory. Chairmen for the evening were Meredith Melling Burke, Cristina Cuomo, Nina Garcia, Alex Kramer, Alexandra Lebenthal, Christian Leone, Molly Sims. Junior Chairs were: Byrdie Bell, Martin Dawson, Claiborne Swanson Frank, Serena Nikkhah, Dalia Oberlander, Lauren Remington Platt, Gillian Hearst Simonds.

This is a really lovely evening, black tie, with the (mostly young) women dressed to the fashion, in a beautiful environment. What it is is a super dinner dance and the monies they raise support the Botanical Garden’s world-renowned Children’s Education Programs. The Botanical offers children of all ages, particularly the underserved children of the Bronx, the opportunity to learn about nature in fun and engaging ways through workshops and hands-on activities.

At the heart of the program is the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, 12 acres of indoor/outdoor facility featuring themed galleries, interactive exhibits, and a changing seasonal landscape that provide and living and dynamic setting for children to explore plant science up close.

Last Wednesday night at Cipriani 42nd Street, they held the 2009 UNICEF Snowflake Ball, presented by Baccarat. Al Roker was host, with a Special Performance by Island Def Jam Music Group Recording Artist Chrisette Michele.

They honored Antoinio “LA” Reid and Ted Chaiban, who is currently UNICEF’s representative in Ethiopia. Snowflake Project Chairs were Pamela Fiori, Editor-in-Chief of Town & Country and international interior designer and purveyor of style, Charlotte Moss. The Gala chairs were Claudia Lebenthal and Christine Stonbely. Junior chairs: Barbara Bush (the younger, yes) and Maggie Betts. Bush and Betts’ pa’s have been friends since schooldays.

The UNICEF Snowflake above the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street: a beacon of hope, peace and compassion for vulnerable children around the world.
The evening was a celebration of the lighting of the UNICEF Snowflake and to honoring those who have made key contributions to UNICEF’s mission to save and improve children’s lives worldwide.

UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in over 150 countries, it provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF’s work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States.

UNICEF is at the forefront of efforts to reduce child mortality worldwide. There has been substantial progress—the annual number of under-five deaths dropped from 13 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008. But still, 24,000 children die each day from preventable causes. Our mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. For more information, visit www.unicefusa.org
