 Hosting up a storm

Natalie Portman at a screening of Brothers, hosted by The Cinema Society with Details and & DKNY Men. |
In the past week and a half our friends at The Cinema Society have been hosting up a storm as the film industry heads toward the end of the year and the New Year’s Oscars.
A week ago Thursday at the Landmark Sunshine, CS’s founder Andrew Saffir, along with D&G hosted a screening and party for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which went on to have the biggest midnight opening of any movie ever, and the biggest opening day of any movie ever!
Not surprisingly the screening was Celebrity City considering that it was attended by its stars, the hottest heartthrob of the moment, Robert Pattinson and his heartthrob of the moment (or forever, or not anymore – depending on who’s keep track), Kristen Stewart. Furthermore, the after party was at The Box. So, no disappointments all around. |

Then, last Sunday night (a week ago), Cinema Society along with Details & DKNY Men hosted the New York premiere of Brothers, directed by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, In America), and which stars Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.
For the Brothers screening, Mr. Maguire and Ms. Portman were on hand for the premiere and Skyy Vodka sponsored the after party which followed at Abe & Arthur's, the massive, shiny lounge restaurant in the Meatpacking.
For this one, Andrew Saffir welcomed another star-studded group that included Sam Shepard, The Edge, Jessica Lange, Ang Lee, Bill Pullman, Amanda Peet, Terrence Howard, Harvey Weinstein and Georgina Chapman, Kevin Connolly, Olympia Dukakis, Ed Westwick, Jessica Szohr, Emma Roberts, Sebastian Stan, Katharine McPhee, Guillermo Diaz ("Weeds"), Stephen Dorff, Rick Yune, Kelly Rutherford, Matt Bomer ("White Collar"), Charlie Bewley (Twilight Saga: New Moon), Ralph Macchio, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Connolly, Ben Shenkman, Terry George, Agyness Deyn, Rosanna Scotto ("Good Day New York"), Rachel Roy, Fern Mallis, Joe Zee, Anne V, Andre Harrell, Daniel Benedict, Ross Bleckner, Shoshanna and Josh Gruss, Olivia Palermo ("The City") and Johannes Huebl, Bettina Zilkha, writer David Benioff, producers Ryan Kavanaugh and Sigurjon Sighvatsson, and Details Editor in Chief Dan Peres. I mean, do these kids ever stay home? No. |

And then, the following night CS, along with Screenvision and Brooks Brothers hosted a screening of the new Richard Linklater film, Me & Orson Welles which stars another heartthrob of the moment (there’s always room for another) Zac Efron and Claire Danes, and those two stars were also present for the screening the after party which was sponsored by Three Olives and held on the roof of the Gramercy Park Hotel.
Based in real theatrical history, Me & Orson Welles is a comedic coming-of-age story which takes place in New York in 1937 is about an actor who lucks into a role in Julius Caesar as it’s being re-imagined by the brilliant, impetuous Wunderkind director Orson Welles who with John Houseman had recently founded the Mercury Theatre Company.
For this celeb-fest and fun evening, Mr. Saffir drew a group that included Hugh Dancy, Courtney Love, Zac Posen, Zoe Kazan, Mamie Gummer, Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), Madeline Martin (“Californication”), Rick Yune, B.J. Novak, Stephen Dorff, Aasif Mandvi (“The Daily Show”), Michael Cunningham, Ben Shenkman, Duncan Sheik, Ian Schrager, Bee Shaffer, Lydia Hearst, Amber Rose, China Chow, Irina Pantaeva, Frederique Van Der Wal, Debbie Bancroft, Fern Mallis, Daniel Benedict, Olivia Palermo (“The City”) and Johannes Huebl, Olympic medalist Tim Morehouse, Brooks Brothers’ Claudio del Vecchio, producers John Sloss, Mark Samuelson and Ann Carli, writers Robert Kaplow, Holly Gent Palmo and Vincent Palmer Jr. A winner all around. |
